One of the things you can do to help get more out of your craigslist page is to add a Facebook share button!

One of the things you can do to help get more out of your craigslisting is to add a Facebook share button!

Before you do this though, you should make sure that you have done a few things first. Give your listing a good title. One of the worst things you can do is give a vague description. Once you’ve come up with a title, take a moment to do a little homework. Think about the things that someone reading your listing might call of email you about. If you put these details in the listing, you’ll have less questions to answer and more serious inquiries to work with. The greatest thing you can add to your listing- a good photo! There are numerous ways to do this, the easiest is right through craigslist. The next is to add an image using an online photo sharing site like Photobucket, which will generate the code you need to copy paste automatically after you’ve uploaded your image.

Now comes the best part- adding the Facebook share button. You can make your own, or use this one…

To use this idea, you need to create your listing first. Once it’s done, get the link for the page. You’ll need this to make the button work. Go back and edit your page, adding the button code at the bottom, and including your craigslist hyperlink. It should look something like this:

<a href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http://binghamton.craigslist.org/for/2370543592.html">
<img src="http://www.mydesignerguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Facebook-Craigslist-Share-Button-from-MyDesignerGuy-com.png"></a>

Light Blue: This is the url link which allows you to post on your Facebook page
Pink: This is your craigslist listing url
Orange: This is the image code you can cut and paste from your Photobucket account, or other uploaded source. Just change the url to your image (shown in dark orange) url.

I hope this helps you get more attention for your craigslist page!

It seems that Google refuses to give up and is trying to push once again its way into the social space, by introducing a new feature called “+1″ that it will basically have the same functionality as the Facebook “Like” button does (share recommended content with other people). And yes, even though Facebook has been doing this for sometime now, they do have the advantage of early start, but it would not be hard to think that the Google +1 button could quickly gain popularity, knowing that it is going to be integrated on the search results of the world’s most used search engine, giving them plenty exposure to buildup influence.

Can Google Plus One Take On The Facebook Like?

Fortunately for Google, it has the world’s largest search engine to integrate this product with immediately, giving publishers a significant reason to implement +1 within their sites. Google accounts for more than 50 percent of incoming traffic on most sites, while Facebook is currently running a distant second in referring traffic (more then 10 percent of our own traffic comes from Facebook). For now, the new product is being offered as an experimental service, although there’s no doubt the company plans on making it a widespread feature.

How important social is to the world of search is still debatable, but we’ve long argued that it’s a critical component, since liking, tweeting, and now +1ing (what a horrible name by the way) may have much lower friction than placing a hyperlink on the web. Possibly more significant is the fact that Google’s own advertisements will now include the +1 button, making AdWords just as social as many of Facebook’s own advertising products.

Google Ads +1

It’s pretty clear that Google wants to become a whole lot more social and in order to get there, they’re going to take a page directly out of Facebook’s playbook. The only unanswered question is whether or not publishers will begin placing the Google +1 button within their own sites. Also important is how aggressive Google will be in building a publisher relations team which works with online publications to implement the experimental feature. If Google wants to get into “social” this is definitely a great step.

However, with so many previous failures in the social world (example: Buzz), what makes this product any different? With Google’s major influence, there’s no doubt that they will be able to get any online publication on the phone in a heartbeat. The only question now is how fast the search company can move. With no add-on for publishers available yet, it’s clear that Google has a long way to go before they put a serious dent in the massive lead that Facebook already has when it comes to measuring consumers’ interest in content around the web.

The Writing Was On The Wall

Just to clarify even more – the writing was on the wall back when Google rolled out Place Page results in the main SERPs – right away it was evident that Local listings with more reviews were getting a boost in their placement. And not long after that, Google started a marketing push to get people to provide reviews of Local businesses right within Google, as a way to take ownership of what had been reliance on Yelp, CitySearch and other rating services. Now though, it’s gone to a new level…

Request invite to add Google +1 button

Since this is a new (experimental) feature, roll out is being done in phased manner. As of now, you cannot add +1 button by default and need to request for invite to do the same.

1. Open +1 button invite request webpage.

2. Enter your email ID and website URL.

3. Click Submit button and let Google contact you when feature to add +1 button is available.

A new scam that appeals to both our egos and instinct for voyeurism is spreading like wildfire on Facebook. An app going by various names, including ProfileSpy and Pro Check, claims it will offer insight into how many people have viewed your Facebook profile if you fill out a short survey and grant the app permission to access your information.

The scam has been making its way around the social network via status updates, which include a link to the suspicious service and text that reads, “My total facebook views are: 1245 Find out your total profile views.”

From the flurry of status updates that are appearing on Facebook, it appears many are falling for the phony service.

Don’t be one of them: Not only will completing the survey fail to shed light on the number of views your profile has actually received, but doing so will reward the scammer, who is likely to earn a commission, and, as All Facebook notes, “the whole exercise exposes your profile to malware and shares your personal information with an entity that will send you more spam in the near future.”

Posts touting this scam are going up very quickly right now, and the application doing the posting goes by several different names, each with its own page on Facebook; multiple sources obviously complicates efforts to stop the scheme, while also accelerating the spread of the campaign.

The number of views listed in these postings appear inflated, stoking the vanity of the individual who clicked through to the application. Don’t succumb to this temptation, as the survey is just another big waste of time that, if you complete it, earns a commission for the spammer and gives you nothing in return. Plus, the whole exercise exposes your profile to malware and shares your personal information with an entity that will send you more spam in the near future.

WordPress is the most powerful and flexible personal publishing platform available today, the Word Press interface is very easy to use and it takes care of all of the programming for you. This means it can be easily extended to add functionality and thus can be any kind of site a small business might want. It can be a portfolio site, it can be an email marketing site or a specialized social network. You can add a product catalog and run an e-commerce business with it. It can be used for event scheduling. It can be used to deliver video and podcasts. And yes, it can be a blog. Anytime you want to change anything on the site you just log into the Word Press Admin page and make your changes.

There are lots of proprietary website systems out there that one can use to build a website. However, those proprietary systems are dependent on you continuing to use the service provider. You can’t pick up your Hubspot website and take it to your own internet host. You can’t take those site builder sites anywhere else. A Go Daddy “Website Tonight” website has to stay at Go Daddy. Once you commit to them all of your hard work stays with them.

With WordPress you can control who you work with. If you start a WordPress site with Go Daddy and later decide you don’t like them you can easily transfer your site to another host without losing any of the work you’ve already put into it.

It’s constantly being updated. As online technology and trends continue to change keeping up with the latest and greatest new thing can be very difficult if you are doing your own thing when it comes to websites. The beauty of the WordPress software is the team of developers and users alike that keep it up to date, provide a never ending flow of new themes and plugins, and help prevent malicious attacks from the unfortunate reality of hackers. I’m sure you’ve come across websites that look, even to the novice, to be hopelessly out of date. This won’t happen with WordPress as it is stunningly simple to change the look and feel of your site whenever you feel the urge.

It’s free. That’s right, free. The WordPress software is available at no charge to anyone who would like it. It’s Open Source software that is being used by millions and millions of people worldwide. To have your own self-hosted website the only real costs you incur are that of a domain name, maybe $10 a year, and a small hosting account which might cost $10-$15 a month. That’s it.

WordPress is always evolving : WordPress started out as a blog engine, but it has become so much more. With each new release new possibilities are added. And since it is “Open Source” there are thousands of developers writing plugins to extend its functionality.
The 2 biggest reasons for success of WordPress, especially for Small Business & Self Publishing business has been (1) ease of use and (2) scalability. True – 5th graders can set up & use a WordPress system! And for small business users, a software like WordPress is immensely scalable without any appreciable extra cost.
